KATSEYE member Sophia Laforteza is taking some time away from the group.

The 23-year-old singer announced that she will be temporarily stepping back from KATSEYE’s upcoming promotional activities as she focuses on her mental health and overall well-being.

The news was shared on Friday (August 7), with HYBE and Geffen confirming that Sophia has been advised by medical professionals to take an extended period of rest and receive ongoing care.

“Sophia has been receiving the utmost support, and following thorough consultations with medical professionals, it has been advised that she take dedicated time for extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery,” the companies said in a statement.

They added that Sophia’s health, safety and long-term well-being remain the top priority, noting that her condition will be reassessed in September. Sophia also addressed fans directly, sharing an emotional message about her decision to step away.

“It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot,” she wrote. “You know how much I love being on stage, performing, and sharing these moments with you.”

“Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first,” Sophia continued. “I’m realizing that if I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love most for very long.”

Sophia went on to thank fans for their patience, understanding and continued support, promising that she will work toward recovering and returning stronger.

“I promise I’m going to work as hard as I can to get through this, heal properly, and come back stronger,” she said.

Sophia’s temporary break comes just days before KATSEYE’s upcoming promotional activities, including the group’s new EP WILD, which is set for release on August 14.

She is also the second KATSEYE member to step away from group activities this year. Manon Bannerman announced her own temporary hiatus in February to focus on her health and well-being.

For now, KATSEYE will continue its activities with Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae. Fans will receive another update on Sophia’s status following her reassessment in September.
