Kim Petras is opening up about a difficult chapter in her career.

The pop star revealed that she no longer owns the rights to some of her older music and says she gave up personal possessions while fighting to regain her artistic freedom.

In a candid statement, Kim shared that she spent a year working to secure her freedom and even sold her designer items along the way.

“I no longer own my old songs. I lost a year of my life securing my freedom and sold my designer items, but I’d rather die than not live for my art and let you finally get to know who I really am.”

Kim also acknowledged that her journey toward taking control of her career is far from over.

“I still have a long way to go before I regain control over my own story. All I want is to be able to tell my story truthfully one day and, hopefully, buy back my music.”

The comments come as Kim continues to push for greater control over her music and the story she wants to tell through her art.
