Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue on Saturday Night Live — and the pop superstar had a few things to say about her friend’s dating life!

Dakota hosted SNL for the third time during the October 3 episode, where she opened the show by joking about her history of dating musicians.

“I went through two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians,” Dakota said, before joking that she was now looking for a third.

The actress, who recently starred in Verity, then explained that her friends have always been supportive of her romantic choices.

That was when Taylor suddenly walked onto the stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my literal therapist,” Dakota said as the audience erupted in cheers.

Taylor immediately corrected her.

“I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some,” Taylor joked.

“Yeah, well, I have manners,” Dakota replied.

Taylor continued to describe their supposed weekly sessions.

“And then you flop on my couch and overshare, and every so often I just say, ‘Damn, that’s crazy,’” she said.

“Is that not a therapist?” Dakota asked.

Taylor then explained that when she tries to end the night, Dakota simply responds, “Sleepover, yay!”

Instead of a sleepover, however, Taylor revealed that she gives Dakota some Pedialyte before having her security drive the actress home.

Dakota eventually returned to her dating history, joking that her relationships with musicians are actually a public service.

“I think actually I’m doing a public service by dating them, because, ladies, I am saving you a lot of money on Zoloft,” she joked.

“So you’re welcome, America. And also England. And parts of Ireland. And Cleveland,” Dakota added.

Taylor wasn’t finished with the surprises, either.

Later in the episode, during the goodnights, the singer returned to the stage carrying a birthday cake for Dakota, who turned 37 on Sunday, October 4.

The appearance comes shortly after the longtime friends teamed up for Taylor’s “Patient Zero” music video, which stars Dakota. Dakota also recently presented Taylor with the inaugural Artist Director Honors award at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
