IShowSpeed is stepping into the world of filmmaking with his first-ever film as a producer, The Eyes of Ghana, and the first trailer has officially arrived!
The upcoming documentary tells the story of legendary Ghanaian cinematographer Chris Hesse, who is on a mission to rescue more than 1,000 films documenting Africa’s fight for independence during the 1950s and ’60s.
The project shines a spotlight on the importance of preserving historical footage that captures a defining period in African history, ensuring these powerful stories and images remain accessible to future generations.
“It is a great honour to be part of The Eyes of Ghana and help bring this extraordinary piece of history to the big screen,” IShowSpeed said in a statement.
The popular streamer also opened up about his personal connection to Ghana, explaining that his visit to the country earlier this year as part of his Speed Does Africa tour made the project especially meaningful to him.
Speaking about Hesse’s remarkable legacy, IShowSpeed added, “His camera captured the birth of African independence and his determination to preserve those images has ensured that future generations can witness it for themselves. I’m humbled by his legacy and proud to help bring his story to my community.”
The Eyes of Ghana is set to receive a special one-night theatrical release in the United States on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in collaboration with Barack and Michelle Obama, Variety reported on Tuesday, October 13.
The documentary will screen in 10 major cities across the country, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
With the release of its first trailer, The Eyes of Ghana is bringing renewed attention to the efforts to preserve Africa’s cinematic heritage and the historical images that tell the story of the continent’s journey toward independence.
